Memorial Dance Tribute
The following is an idea for a ceremony for a square dance club member that has passed away. This ceremony is based on the the "missing person" ceremony often used in the military and other organizations and was suggested by A. G. Tew.
(Seven dancers, one drummer, all dressed in performance costume, black tape over badges)
- In silence, square up, drummer to the side, woman alone in head position
- At soft drum tap, half a grand square, pause
- At soft drum tap, slow circle left, hands held except between head lady and number four man, pause
- At soft drum tap, single file circle right, pause, dancers stand with heads bowed, hands crossed at natural height in front
- At soft drum tap, Number 4 Man and Number 2 Lady take Head Lady by the arm and slowly lead off, followed by their partners, Number 3, and the now silent drummer
